Running Campus Issues
This page features recurrent student problems and complaints on the SUNY New Paltz campus, with issues dating from the late 1950's.
Issue: Food Services
Complaints of consistantly rising costs at on-campus eateries, with decreasing food quality, has kept Food Service Reform a major issue.
Issue: Campus Health Center
The campus health center, and specifically the issue of the Health Center being closed on weekends, has been a recurrent theme in New Paltz student politics, with Oracle articles dating from 1979 onwards.
Issue: Constitutional Reform
With several different constitutions having been enacted within the past 50 years, there have frequently been conflicts over the structure and power of the respective Student Governments.
Issue: Student-Administration Relationship
There have frequently been issues between New Paltz students and the Administration, including conflicts over Public Relations, services, and control of key resources.
Issue: Guns On Campus
THe idea of having firearms on campus has been a contentious one each time it has come up. There was a great deal of controversy when the decision to arm the University Police was made, and there has been upset over the idea of a Militia.
